Blogdog.com is dead

It may seem a bit extreme, but you heard me right. Blogdog, formerly today.com, seems to have disappeared off the face of the Earth.

I won't delve too much into this for now, because it may simply be that some fool forgot to renew the domain name subscription. But if it really is the end, it certainly is a massive pity because we're all left with a hollow feeling. All the effort put into the blogs it hosted... gone. To the dogs, as the site's motto might have claimed.

Well, the place was on a downward spiral which began with the layoff of numerous high profile bloggers and culminated in selling the today.com domain name. Ever since, the content had been sitting there, festering in its own filth for months at blogdog.com, so I guess not many people would notice that the company has disappeared completely.

I wonder what became of Violette and co.? If anyone knows, drop me a line because I'd love to know.

  1. I just noticed this myself. I wrote on today.com and had the same experience as so many others - luckily I managed to make one payout before I got locked out.

It was hard to see how they thought transferring everything to a name like blogdog was going to work. Let's face it, the content was still there but every single blog lost all its page rank at a stroke. It was inevitable traffic would dive!

In a way I'm glad it died, though I feel sorry for all the people who were still using the site.

  2. There were one or two people still knocking around, and yes, all their content is gone also.

  3. Now, the site keeps getting spammed. I wish they would remove all the old posts.

  4. Thank goodness it is finally gone. I had a blog on Today.com and made $43 just before the domain was sold to NBC for millions (yes, millions). I guess I was on their good side cuz they paid me the $43 just after they sold the domain and blocked me out of my blog. My blog was one of the top twenty on today.com so I was a bit peeved to say the least. At least I learned my lesson.

  5. What I'd like to know is who, if anyone, now owns the content, and whether it will ever appear online again.
